The CANSA Pain Manager app helps cancer patients and caregivers manage pain, reduce stress, and improve their ability to care for loved ones by providing tools to track pain, medication, and appointments. Care for the elderly is a project based on creating Microsoft Excel databases for Blue Mountain Village, a retirement village. 
The databases were created for easier information access and digitizing their daily filing systems.

The Catch-Your-Mood app, launched in February 2018 at the 5th Global Mental Health Summit, helps clinicians support patients with mental illnesses like depression and anxiety

The Centre for integrated Post-School Education and Training (CIPSET) contributes to the role of the Nelson Mandela University as an engaged transformative university.  CIPSET is a centre of learning, engagement and research excellence through socially engaged public scholarship in the areas of community, vocational and worker education.  
 
CIPSET works collaboratively for progressive community, adult and worker education by developing the capacity and power of young researchers, and community and worker educators to conduct socially engaged transdisciplinary research and to mobilise, organize and build a progressive critical transformative educational praxis in South Africa and construct an enduring platform both for  the genuine transformation of the post-school system and for its sustainability over time.

Contact Symptom Monitoring Tool

  • Customised solution for EC Province
  • Allows any person who was in contact with a known COVID-19 positive person or a suspected positive person to monitor symptoms for a period of 14 days since date of contact;
  • Allows all healthcare workers to monitor symptoms daily whilst dealing with COVID-19 cases
  • Admin Dashboard and drill-down in individual cases (if required)
 
 

Covid Trace

The mobile application was developed to assist the Department of Health in the Eastern Cape with the tracing of contacts during the Covid-19 pandemic. The application allows for the tracing and screening of persons who had been in contact with Covid-19 positive persons.

C-Vive is was initially a mobile application and converted to a web based application that provides accessible information about cancer, targeting South Africans with limited knowledge or access, as well as those who are illiterate or visually impaired.

DigiTB

DigiTB, developed by the Centre for Community Technologies (CCT), is a responsive web and mobile application that aids healthcare professionals in tracking and monitoring TB and HIV patients via internet-connected devices.
 
The app features six modules covering assessment, treatment compliance, case finding, medication management, counseling and FAQs with TB patients requiring a smartphone for video calls.
 
DigiTB is a responsive web and mobile application developed by the Centre for Community Technologies (CCT). It helps healthcare professionals track and monitor TB and HIV patients. The system is accessible from any internet-connected device, and TB patients need a smartphone or mobile device for video calls. The application includes six modules:

eDeath


 
The eDeath website was created to address the lack of routine training for doctors in South Africa on medical certification of cause of death, aiming to improve the accuracy of mortality data used for public health policy. It provides training on correctly completing death certificates, understanding the importance of accurate certification, and refers doctors to forensic pathology services when necessary, offering CPD points upon completion.
 
 
 
 

eReady

 
The eReady project, funded by the Department of Science and Innovation and managed by the Technology Innovation Agency, assesses ICT maturity in South African schools.
It piloted and refined an ICT Maturity Assessment Tool, which was tested in 102 multi-grade schools, with findings to be shared with key stakeholders, including the DST, TIA, and DBE.
The eReady project, funded by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and managed by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), aims to assess ICT maturity in schools. 
 
The CCT was tasked with refining and piloting a paper-based ICT Maturity Assessment Tool with 53 schools in:
1.KwaZulu-Natal
2.North West
3.Mpumalanga. 
 
After refinement, an Electronic ICT Maturity Assessment Tool was developed and piloted with 102 multigrade schools across all nine provinces in South Africa. 
 
A policy brief with findings and recommendations has been drafted and will be presented to stakeholders, including the DSI, TIA, and the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

The eSkills programme offered by the Centre for Community Technologies is part of Nelson Mandela University's Short Learning Programmes and is provided to communities in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan. Since its inception in 2016, the program has empowered people from all backgrounds to conquer the challenges of technology, transforming them into heroes of their own lives.
 
 
FishFORCE
FishFORCE, South Africa's first Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy, was established in 2016 by Professor Hennie van As at Nelson Mandela University to combat global fisheries crime through knowledge-driven investigations, training, and partnerships with entities like Interpol and the UN.
Supporting this effort, the CCT developed mobile apps and an online learning portal to assist law enforcement officers with fish species identification, evidence capturing, legal procedures, and case management.
 
 
 

Find-My-Mojo

The CCT developed the Find-My-Mojo app to help individuals manage emotions, assess personal wellness, and access 24/7 support for mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and stress.
Complementing this, the Catch-ur-Mood app allows users to track and monitor their mood and activity patterns, promoting better self-awareness and mental wellness management.

LEAP-Agri

LEAP-Agri is a Europe-Africa collaborative project focused on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture, involving 30 partners from 18 countries, supported by the European Commission. The CCT team contributed by developing a sensor box using IoT technology to measure soil and environmental parameters in South Africa, with data displayed on an LCD screen and transmitted via WiFi and radio frequency.
 
 

Learn2Code

The CCT’s Learn2Code programme, launched in February 2017, teaches Grade 6 and 7 learners from low-income schools in Port Elizabeth to code using Scratch software, helping them develop computer skills and creativity.
Led by the CCT, founded at Nelson Mandela University, the programme inspires learners to explore higher education, careers, and entrepreneurial opportunities in coding.

The €3 million mHealth4Afrika project, led by Professor Darelle van Greunen, is a collaboration between the CCT and European partner, the International Information Management Corporation (IIMC) which focuses on developing a mobile electronic management system for patient data in public clinics and hospitals in Kenya, Malawi, and Ethiopia.
Initially targeting maternal health, it manages records throughout pregnancy and the newborn phase..

This collaboration between STEPi (Squaring the Education Pyramid Institute) founder Paul Sutherland and the CCT focuses on early childhood development and happiness through books, digital platforms, videos, and events. Guided by the belief in equal access to resources, STEPi distributes diverse books to underserved areas, addressing topics like culture, gender, and mental health, with some including teaching plans for educational use.
 
 

VISION 4 WOMEN

This is an ongoing project where CCT is working on designing a website for Vision4 Women Vision4 Women aims to inspire and empower women and girls to reach their full potential, become leaders, and make meaningful contributions regardless of their background.
 
The organization also showcases local talent and provides a platform for women to network through conferences, workshops, and retreats.
